This was my first project where I owned everything—the idea, the planning, the execution.
The challenge: transform an industrial hall into an immersive dance experience for Estonia's Burning Man community. Problem was, nobody had ever calculated load ratings for the ceiling. I measured the steel trellis, ran the numbers, figured out safe capacity, then divided by four. The LED screens would hang directly over the dancefloor—no room for mistakes.
I built three layers of light above the dancefloor. Two layers of beam fixtures at 3m and 6m created a canopy of light right above the dancers. At 8m, 32 Pixled F30 screen panels played abstract visuals synced to the lighting—uniform wash when you were dancing, mesmerizing patterns when you looked up.
The DJ booth had two pairs of four arrows pointing inward, playing animations to draw attention to the performer. Behind the DJ sat the Hedgehog art car—lit up and part of the party. At the opposite end, we built a 16m wide by 6m high staircase from scaffolding with mattressed steps. Tired dancers could crash there while still watching the show.
Center-floor, we made a 3x3m elevated platform with heavy-duty steel mesh over a 5x5 tungsten LED matrix. Four ADJ Fury Jett fog cannons surrounded it, shooting CO2 fountains up between dancers during peaks. A performer with an illuminated hanging hula hoop did scheduled shows here throughout the night.
Equipment: 32x Acme Orion beams (two layers), 16x Astera AX7, 32x Pixled F30 screen panels, 5x5 tungsten LED matrix panel, 4x ADJ Fury Jett fog cannons, Chamsys MagicQ MQ500 console.
This project's success led directly to full responsibility for Traveling Hedgehog 2025—main stage, Soft Landing installation, festival-wide decorative lighting, and art direction assistance.
